THE MONROE DOCTRINE

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

The doctrine was termed by the name of American President, the person of James Monroe following his moves towards isolating United State and North America (Western Hemisphere) from Europe and rest of the world. The Latin and South American situation in the early 18th century brought about the Monroe doctrine of 1823. There was revolutionary in Spain and Portugal, their American colonies seized the opportunity to urge America to help them in their fight for freedom. The crisis in Spain and Portugal gave America colonies a taste of freedom that subsequently welted their appetite for self-government.

An American advocate for Latin America freedom passed a resolution on American support of Latin American course. James Monroe and John Query Adams object the resolution with the fact that it might effect their negotiation for Florida. After they finished the Florida negotiation, the resolution was accepted and USA faced the fear that Europe might intervene. What brought about the fear was that, the Holy Alliances countries of Russia, France and Prussia had pledged their support to calm first the revolution in Spain and Portugal and to help both countries regain their colonies.

USA suspected that the European Alliance wanted something in return and France was rumored to be aiming Cuba and Russia’s intended to extend her influence through Alaska to the the pacific coast of North America. U.S knew no European country would attack northern hemisphere without British support. Meanwhile, British had enjoyed enormous gain since the crisis in Spain and Portugal began, their direct link to Latin America was needed to be protected. U.S supported by Britain decided to initiate a directive but to British utmost dismay, James Monroe Propounded a doctrine separating the northern hemisphere from the rest of the world.

LESSONS FOR NIGERIAN LEADERS

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips Recently, the President Elect in the United State of America; in the person of Mr. Barack Obama nominated his formal rival at the last presidential primary race for the Democrats and also an ex-first lady Mrs Hillary Clinton for the post of the “Secretary of State”.
This to me is a surprise, a very big surprise but when you look at the rationale behind his decision, which I quote now “Mrs Clinton is an American of tremendous stature who will have my complete confidence, who knows many of the world leaders, who will command respect in every capital and who will clearly have the ability to advance our interest around the world; Hillary’s appointment is a sign to friend and foe of the seriousness of my commitment to renew American diplomacy and restore our alliances”.
This is a big step taken by Obama, despite the clashes that occurred between them during the primaries and the differences of opinions to national issues; he still went ahead to nominate her for the post. This goes to show that in the affairs of the State, the greater good of the state is more important than your individual goal or opinion. Secondly, working hand-in-hand with your rivals from within or outside your party will foster the unity of the State in general especially when the candidate nominated has a well established credibility and well-withal to perform the duty in hand.
Conclusively, this is a big lesson for the administration of our current president to learn from because what I have been seeing and hearing will not foster the unity of Nigeria. For instance, appointment of minister, advisers and aids from only his party (PDP) and the appointees consisting of largely Hausa’s will not help matters; it will only show him as a biased leader. He should endeavor to appoint people like Dr. (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the minister due to her diligent work and for the fact that she is well known by world leaders; in fact, most of the people that served under the immediate past administration Chief Olusegun Obasanjo are very good.

A Determined Mind Can Achieve The Unexpected

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips An article I read in the Guardian newspaper titled “A bouquet for an aspiring world champion” really got me thinking about “DETERMINATION” and “SUCCESS”.
Prince Kennedy Nwamkpa was determined to be a successful body builder and weight lifter despite the fact that our great country Nigeria does not have the facility not the equipment that will benefit people involved in his chosen profession. Secondly, the body building profession is very expensive to run due to the fact that you have to be on a special diet but with all the odds against him, Prince Kennedy achieved the unexpected; he got an eight placed position at the World Weight Lifting Championship held in the United States in October and also got invited to both the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic (body building competition) and Mr World Championship next year.
Finally to the bigger picture, the only person I know that has such a determination in all of our leaders in Nigeria; is in the person of our beloved Governor of Lagos State Babatunde Raji Fashola. Just take a look at the tremendous work he’s doing in Lagos with his acute implementation of policies, which has turn and is still turning Lagos around for good. This goes to say that determination begets success.

पीडीपी थिएवेस इन ACTION

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips The statement made by the PDP National Publicity Secretary in person of Prof. Rufai Alkali shows the state of mind of our leaders as selfish and unqualified to be in governance. To levie governors with 50 million naira and raising 10bn from government and non-government officials and you expect tonques not to wag; HABA! That makes them (PDP) the biggest set of ignorant people because where do they expect the money to come from; from their private pocket, give me a break!
