FORCED MARRIAGES

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

I recently learnt that forced marriages are on the rise in Nigeria especially in the northern part of the country.

It has gotten worse to the extent were young girls and ladies are held hostages in their own homes by their own relatives which brings me to the case of Fatimah Shuabu Liman age 20 and Talatu Liman 21. Both victims were brutally beaten and held against their will for as long as 3 months before their cases was brought to the notice of Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA). Statistics shows that, large percentage of forced marriages occur within the Muslim community.

Another case occurred sometime in January or February which I also read in Punch; A man originally from Niger but has been residing for a while here in Nigeria with his two daughters age 18 and 12; then out of the bloom, he told them they will be getting married in about a months time; to their amazement and those of the people living around them; a marriage ceremony was conducted in the presence of their fathers family and their suitors without their having a say and then bundled off to their grooms houses in Badagry and Ajah. It should be noted that the grooms where not present at their wedding and that both of them live in a room apartment.

The question now is why do some parents force their children into marriage? According to the father of the two girls, he gave them out to marriage because he could not afford to send them to school anymore; secondly,, to avoid letting them get pregnant by neighborhood guys which I will narrow down to poverty but in his case I would say he had other reasons because both grooms are financially in the same category he is which is poor. But in Fatimah and Talatu’s case I will call it greed.

POLICE BRUTALITY

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

Where are we heading to in Nigeria? I don’t know, I don’t know how such brutality could be done to a young man of 25 by an agency of the state which is suppose to protect lives and property within the society.

In a society govern by laws, in a state under the umbrella of the constitution which proclaims that nobody is above the law; then something must be done to give succor to Ojo Jimoh, a furniture apprentice who was mistakenly arrested as an armed robber in 1995 and thus spent ten years of his life in prison without trial. No wonder Nigeria lost out on the recent ICC election in New York; who would want a country with a Bad human right record on ICC council seat.

DREAMS

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

So many of us visualise so many DREAMS, we hope to actualize these DREAMS by shaping the world that we are in in order to be a reputable representative of the world we find ourselves.

Some DREAMS are mere visuals of our imaginations while some could be an ordinary fragments of one’s perception; we hope to fight for the BEST, hoping to achieve the BEST because we believe (inside of us) that we are the BEST. In my own view, I opined that the four letter word BEST could be favourably described as your building esteemable self target. We have all had several records sets by different competitors or people in different endeavours of life, let’s take a look at some. In sports we set records like BEST footballers, BEST athletes, BEST sportsman of the year, most valuable player and the rest.

In entertainment we have had BEST muscian, BEST actors and actresses, BEST comidian, BEST entertainer and host of other BESTs. Even in politics and leaderships; different personalties have emerged in establishing the esteemable.

At this juncture, it is pertinent to note that being the BEST goes beyond ordinary perception, being the BEST entails rigours hard work and dedication, the love for doing that thing one loves doing BEST as well has infusing a huge sense of enthusiasm and zeal.

In addition, it will be quite vague for one’s dream to be achieved without having a practical and experiencial knowledge of one’s aspirations in life.

In summary, DREAMS are visualized, DREAMS can be actualised, DREAMS can brings out the perpetrators that lives in us, DREAMS can shape our world and redefined our destiny, DREAMS makes us set targets that are amiable,
DREAMS begats being BEST
DREAMS are the first step towards being the BEST – Building Esteemable Self Target.

AMERICANS IN THE EYES OF NON-AMERICANS

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

Jonathan Power, a columnist at the Punch Newspaper here in Nigeria stated some things an ordinary American will find difficult to believe even though some of their renowned scholars such as Samuel Huntington (The Clash of Civilisation, 1999) had previously said the same thing.

From what I read, Jonathan made it known that Americans are full of themselves. This is made vivid in a statement credit to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright “America is the indispensable nation” and “We stand tall and hence see further than any other nation”, which means other nations are dispensable and that American indispensability is the source of wisdom. So we non-americans see them as arrogant and unilaterism. Take for instance, the US government has in the last two years attemted to unilaterally prevent other countries from acquiring military capabilities that could counter her conventional superiority; enforce American law territorially in other societies; grade countries according to American standards on human rights, drugs, terroism, nuclear proliferation and religious freedom; apply sanctions against countries that do not meet American standards on these issues; promote American corporate interests under the slogans of free trade and open markets; shape World Bank and International Monetary Fund policies to serve the same corporate interests; intervene in local conflicts in which it has relatively little direct interest, gave travel warnings to her citizens for destination such as Nigeria labelling them highly volatile etc.

I will give kudos to Jonathan and even to the Punch Newspaper for having the guts to write and publish this piece: even I had to reaaly think deep before realizing that it is true, one hundered percent true.

NIGERIA LOSES BID FOR INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

Globe of Blogs

It is indeed a great pity that Nigeria of all country had to lose out of the ICC elections for six vacant post of Judges which took place on Tuesday, January 20 2009 in New York.

Yes it is true that the candidate for Nigeria during the election in person of the honourable barrister Chile Eboe Osuji who is presently the head of chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal on Rwanda based in Tanzania is a renowned scholar of international law and well respected but that does not mean he is the right candiate for the job.

I think it is high time the Nigerian government start mixing fresh faces for position in the internationalarena and I believe we lost that election due to the present state of our image as a highly corrupt nation with the Harllebuton and Siemens bribery scandal and not so good human right record.

RIGA IN HISTORY

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

Riga is currently the capital city of Latvia which is located in the baltic region and it shares border with the Russia (formerly known as Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (U.S.S.R) )

Prior to 1933, when the United State of America extended diplomatic recognition to the Soviet (now Russia) there was no relation between the two nation and Russia just had a revolution thus; a fact finding team known as the “Legation Officers” were sent to investigate the Soviet Union. These legation officers were known as “Riga Axiom” .

They were so referred to because Riga served as their base due to the proximity to mother Russia. The legation officers used it a base for the U.S State Department Observation post on Moscow (the Soviet capital). The Riga Axioms served as a catalyst to U.S foreign policy towards the Soviet Union. They advocated the creation of a “Cordon Sanitaire around the Soviet Union and even oppose the U.S supporting them when the Nazi invaded on June 12 1941.

CORRUPTION IS EVERYWHERE

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

Globe of Blogs

Recently, I got to know about a Bernard Madoff who is the chairman and founder of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC which has been in existence since 1960.

The company has a very big reputation in America’s financial sector and connections too but from what I understand about the duties of the company is just the same thing as the “Wonder Banks” we had in Nigeria a year ago which you make an investment for a certain period of time and when the investment is ripe, you collect double or tripple the amount you invested; the only difference is Madoff company also manage asset for people.

But unfortunately, Madoff misappropriate investors funds ranging to billions of dollars and thus uses new investors premium to pay off other (old) investors which investments were ripe. You can read the rest of the details here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Madoff

What am trying to point out here is that corruption is in every country be it African, Asian or European which is not always what you hear on foreign media. What you hear is that corruption is simply the diease of the third world countries especially African country but Madoff case proves otherwise.

The only difference between corruption in America and Africa (Nigeria to be precise) is that it occurs more in Africa than the United States (US) and its more peculiar to public office holder in Africa and to the private sector in the US.

Secondly, culprit of corrupt practices in Africa tend to go scot free still rich and powerful in some quarters but in the US you serve jail terms even if its only for a few years.

CORRUPTION WITHIN THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE

DriversCollection.com - One of largest free net library of device drivers

All Nigerians know the Nigerian Police Force is the number one most corrupted agency in the country due to the many road blocks where they collect twenty twenty naira from motorist (now fifty fifty because of global economic meltdown) killing of innocent victims and tagging them as armed robbers, renting of guns and uniforms to robbers etc.

The list goes on and on and on but never before have I heard or read that a police officer acknowledge that the Nigerian Police Force is a corrupt agency not to talk of been the Second in command in person of “the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Administration), Mr. Ogbonna Onovo.
I give a big kudos to him for that.

Heart Attacks And Drinking Warm Water

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

Globe of Blogs

This is a very good article. Not only about the warm water after your meal, but about Heart Attacks .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals, not cold water, maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating...

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal.. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
C ommon Symptoms Of Heart Attack...
A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting .. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line .
You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep... Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive.

A MESSAGE I WAS ASKED TO PASS ON

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

Globe of Blogs

IF SOMEONE HAD A GUN HELD IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE AND ASKED YOU IF YOU BELIEVED IN GOD, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
SAY NO AND FEEL ASHAMED THE REST OF YOUR LIFE? OR SAY YES, I DO, AND DIE STANDING UP FOR GOD?

If you would say no, DELETE THIS E-MAIL , NOW. IF YOU WOULD SAY YES,

AND STAND UP FOR JESUS CHRIST, PLEASE READ THIS AND PASS ON.

Note: This is a true article that was printed in a southern newspaper less then a year ago

TAKE A DEEP BREATH BEFORE READING THIS!!!

There was an atheist couple who had a child. The couple never told their daughter anything about the Lord. One night when the little girl was 5 years old, the parents fought with each other and the dad shot the Mom, right in front of the child. Then, the dad shot himself. The little girl watched it all. She then was sent to a foster home. The foster mother was a Christian and took the child to church. On the first day of Sunday School, the foster mother told the teacher that the girl had never heard of Jesus, and to have patience with her. The teacher held up a picture of Jesus and said, 'Does anyone know who this is?' The little girl said, 'I do, that's the man who was holding me the night my parents died.'

If you believe this little girl is telling the truth that even though she had never heard of Jesus, he still held her the night her parents died, then you will forward this to as many people as you can.

Or you can delete it as if it never touched your heart.

Funny, isn't it?

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell.

Funny how we believe what the newspapers! say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven provided they do not have to believe, think, say, or do anything the Bible says. (Or is it scary?)

Funny how someone can say 'I believe in God' but still follow Satan (who, by the way, also 'believes' in God).

Funny how you can send a thousand 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

Funny how the lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but the public discussion of Jesus is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Funny how when you go to forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it to them.

Funny how we can go to church for Christ on Sunday, but be an invisible Christian the rest of the week. (Are you laughing?)

Funny how I can be more worried about what other people think of me than what God thinks of me. (Are you thinking?)

Pass this on only if you mean it.

THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW YOUR CELLPHONE COULD DO

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

Globe of Blogs

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.

Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for

survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: -

*EMERGENCY*

*I*

* The Emergency Number worldwide for **Mobile** is 112 .* If you find

yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and there is an

emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to

establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112

can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. **Try it out.**

*II*

* Subject: Have you locked your keys in the car? Does you car have remote keys?*

This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone:

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call

someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person

at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on

their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your

keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away,

and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you

can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Editor's Note: *It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked our car over a cell phone!'*

*III*

Subject: Hidden Battery power

Imagine your cell battery is very low, you are expecting an important call

and you don't have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve

battery. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with

this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This

reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.

AND

*IV*

How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone:

* # 0 6 #

A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your

handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. when your phone get

stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They

will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the

SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.

If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Disparities between hair cut prices in the U.K, United States of America and Nigeria

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips Recently, my uncle came back from the U.K after visiting for three months. He was looking quite as I expected which is fresh and a bit fat but there was something odd about his appearance which I did not quite place until we got back home from the airport.

On getting home, I finally realized that his head was very bushy which is not normal at all for a guy that I have known for almost thirty-one years. My uncle is what I can term as a Nigerian version of Micheal Jordan because he used to have his hair cut slam down just like Micheal. So I asked him why he left his head in a bushy state and he replied which I quote “It cost five pounds to have a hair cut in the U.k and I just looked at it that I will be staying for three months, which means I will have to cut my hair at least 9 times which will cost me about forty-five pounds. This amount to 11, 250 Naira, which is a monthly salary of some Nigerians and to even think of spending that amount of hard earned money from Nigeria in a foreign country is economically unwise because the hair cut will only cost him just 1, 800 Naira to cut in Nigeria for three months and would it not make you or someone else who is in dire need of it happy if I give the forty-five pounds to you or that someone”.

I did not even think of writing this article until I read an article in Ebony Magazine January 2009 edition about the Obama Barber (Zariff) making a hair cut for twenty-one Dollars which is 3, 066 Naira in Nigerian currency for a single cut; this is even more expensive than that of U.k and yet we Nigerians complain that the 200 Naira (1.36 Dollars in current dollar-naira exchange rate) charged for a single hair cut is too expensive.

Now I understand why the IMF says that large percentage of Africans (Nigerians inclusive) live on less than a dollar a day which I think is not true (speaking for Nigerians only). I believe we Nigerians are just prudent in the way we spend our money at a large percentage of us excluding our leaders and the rich in our society (which we all know constitute a meager portion of the Nigerian population) because everyone knows how he or she earns their income which of course we all know our leaders loot our treasury; so they can afford to be spendthrift.

WATER THERAPY

Blogging Tips Blogging Tips

I had a chance read an article on the healing power of water in Glowing Channels Concert Magazine which I find to be very insightful and worth sharing.

According to the article, the intake of water immediately after waking up (i.e. before brushing your teeth) in the morning has been scientifically proven by a Japanese medical society as an 100% cure for the following diseases:

Headache
Body ache
Heart System
Arthritis
Fast heart beat
Epilepsy
TB
Meningitis
Kidney & Urine Diseases
Excess Fatness
Bronchitis
Asthma
Vomiting
Gastritis
Diarrhea
Piles
Diabetes
Constipation
All Eye Diseases
Womb Cancer and menstrual Disorders
Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases

Method of treatment

1) Drink four glass cup of 160ml of water before brushing in the morning i.e. immediately you wake up.

2) Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for the next 45 minutes.

3) Eat & drink as normal after the 45 minutes has elapse.

4) After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours i.e. you can drink straight within the first 15 minutes after a meal.

5) For those who are unable to start with four glasses of water per day; you can start with one and then increase it bit by bit.

6) The above method of treatment will cure/control/reduce the diseases listed below in the number of days stated in front of it.

i. High blood pressure 30 days
ii. diabetes 30 days
iii. Gastric 10 days
iv. Constipation 10 days
v. Cancer 180 days
vi. TB 90 days

7) Arthritic patients should follow the above treatment for three days in the first week and second week onwards on a daily basis.

Please note, this treatment has no side effects except for frequent urinating which does not take adverse effect on the body. Secondly, it is best to take hot tea or warm water with our meals instead of cold water because the cold water will solidify the oily content of your meal and in turns slow down digestion. Once the sludge reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food; it will line the intestine which will later turn to fats and lead to cancer. And lastly, consult your doctor before you commence this therapy.
